Vermiculite is absorbant and often used in horticulture to improve soil structure, usually mixed into soil to help improve aeration and improve water and nutrient retention. Vermiculite is a hydrated laminar mineral which undergoes significant expansion when heated. It's great for raising humidity in propagation domes and reptile egg incubators.
It is advisable to wear a dust mask and goggles when working with vermiculite to avoid throat or eye irritation.
