How to clean your washing machine

They may be responsible for cleaning all of your clothing but a washing machine also needs to be periodically cleaned in order to maintain a hygienic internal environment. Soap residue, detergent, chemicals, and substances that come off your clothing, all end up locked inside your washing machine.

To help maintain a hygienic washing environment, here’s how to clean your washing machine:

To clean your front loader washing machine, add half a cup of white vinegar to your washing machine drum as well as a couple of tablespoons of bicarb soda to your detergent tray. Run the cycle as normal and check the manufacturer’s instructions on how to clean the washing machine filter. 

Same as above but as the water begins to drain out of the machine, you can pause the cycle and, using a clean cloth or brush, scrub the holes in the barrel of the machine. 

A general rule of thumb is that you should clean your washing machine at least once a month but this depends on how you use your machine. If you’re washing clothes more often or are washing heavily-soiled garments, you may want to clean your machine more frequently. 

Products such as bicarb soda and white vinegar are great for cleaning a washer, dissolving in water to effectively clean the internals of your machine.
